Community charter
Last updated: August 18, 2026
The terms of service define what is prohibited. This charter defines what we strive to build together. It rests on six core principles.
1. Here, information stays
This is the platform's reason for being. In a chat group, a helpful answer disappears in three days, and the same question returns endlessly. Here, it is categorized, dated, and easy to find six months later.
Before asking a question, search: the answer may already exist. Once you get a helpful answer, mark it as such — that is what makes it discoverable for the next person.
2. Date time-sensitive information
Consulate processing times, pricing, required documents: all of these evolve. Administrative guidance without a date will eventually become inaccurate without warning, and inaccurate information causes wasted trips, or even lost rights.
Write "as of June 2026, the estimated turnaround in Lyon was six weeks" rather than "processing takes six weeks". If you notice an outdated guide, speak up: report it, or suggest an update.
3. Acknowledge uncertainty
No one expects you to be a legal expert. You are only expected to distinguish what you know from what you assume.
"This worked for me last year" is helpful. "This is the rule" when you are not certain is not: someone will rely on it.
4. Other people's data is not yours
Never post someone else's personal phone number, home address, picture, or official mail — even to help, and even if they acted in good faith elsewhere.
For the directory, submit only public, professional contact information or details shared with the explicit consent of the person concerned.
For yourself: mutual aid requests are reserved for authorized members. Never post case file numbers, ID documents, or anything you would not state aloud in a waiting room.
5. We speak to human beings
People arriving here are often facing hardships: a blocked case file, bereavement from afar, or a difficult relocation. Tone matters as much as substance.
No lecturing, no condescension toward those unfamiliar with procedures, and no regional, linguistic, or generational friction. Disagreeing on a fact: welcome. Personal attacks: no.
6. Reporting is not denouncing
The "Report this content" button is present on every post. Using it for dangerous information, covert advertising, or offensive remarks helps everyone. Each post can only be reported once per user, and every report is reviewed.
A report is not a vote: outcome is determined by merit, not report count.
If the charter is violated
Depending on severity: content is hidden, the account receives a warning, a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban. Every moderation action is recorded in an immutable audit log, and can be appealed at contact@212.social.
Disciplinary action is not the end goal. The goal is that a Moroccan living in Lyon, Brussels, or Geneva can find in three minutes the answer that would have taken three weeks to piece together elsewhere.
